Attorney bills $42,950 – but no written opinion/recommendations?

Our Incline Village Crystal Bay Voice Posted on January 10, 2023 by adminJanuary 10, 2023

In December 2021, a legal firm (Thorndal) was retained by the Board of the Incline Village General Improvement District to deal with a subject of importance to Incline Village property owners: compliance with the beach deed. Thorndal’s engagement letter [below] stated: This project will include the following: • Reviewing any proposed changes to Ordinance No.7 and Policy 16.1.1 to ensure compliance with the beach deed and applicable law. • Reviewing the existing practice of providing recreational privileges, including beach access, to non-resident employees, their paid guests, qualified retired employees and some former Trustees without regard to their residency, to ensure … Continue reading →

Our Incline Village Crystal Bay Voice Posted on December 31, 2022 by adminJanuary 2, 2023

During the 2022 season there were 22,994  rounds played at the Championship golf course with an average revenues of $90.63 per round.  Sadly the expenses to produce each round was $120.53 [1][1]so only 75% of costs were recovered resulting in a loss of $688,210 for the season. The Mountain course fared no better.  Rounds played were 16,832 with an average revenue of $40.77 per round but expenses averaged $58.93 per round so only 70% of costs were recovered.  The course lost $305,669. Why is this important?   1)    Each property owner (YOU) paid the equivalent of $84 to subsidize operations … Continue reading →

IVGID issues “boil water” notice

Our Incline Village Crystal Bay Voice Posted on November 27, 2022 by adminNovember 30, 2022

The Incline Village General Improvement District issued a “boil water” notice on Nov 23, 2022. The streets IVGID listed as being affected are Mercury Court, Apollo Way, Apollo Court, Lunar Court, Wander Way, Saturn Court, Galaxy Way, Jupiter Drive, Bidwell Court, and Jennifer Street from 975 to 996 or the north end of the street. Common reasons for a boil water notice include loss of pressure in the distribution system, loss of disinfection, and other unexpected water quality problems. These often result from other events such as water line breaks, treatment disruptions, power outages and floods. IVGID is State Water … Continue reading →

Opinion – It’s Official – 2022 Elections

Our Incline Village Crystal Bay Voice Posted on November 18, 2022 by adminNovember 7, 2024

For 2024 IVGID Trustee elections, see https://ourivcbvoice.com/2024-washoe-county-ivgid-trustee-election-unofficial-results/ Tulloch and Noble win  seats on the Board of Trustee for the Incline Village General Improvement District (IVGID).  Ray Tulloch, a current member of the IVGID Audit Committee (AC), will be an excellent addition to the Board. With two years of AC experience working with Trustee Dent and Schmitz and currently with Trustees Wong and Tonking we should be grateful to have a person who is already up and running. David Noble, a long term resident of Incline, should also be a good addition and hopefully he can get up to speed in … Continue reading →

What is the role of a Trustee?

Our Incline Village Crystal Bay Voice Posted on November 15, 2022 by adminJanuary 6, 2023

At the Board meeting October 12, 2022, resident Linda Smith spoke eloquently of the need for the IVGID Board to provide oversight and be fiduciaries.  The term fiduciary is from Roman law, and means a person invested with rights and powers to be exercised for the benefit of another person. But is the Trustee told that is their job? What is in the IVGID  Trustee Handbook?  We read the handbook and learned: there is NO JOB DESCRIPTION.  Yet, a trustee is arguably one of the most important jobs at IVGID. Newly elected trustees Ray Tulloch and David Noble will take … Continue reading →

OPINION: Effluent Projects Costs Balloon to $78 Million

Our Incline Village Crystal Bay Voice Posted on November 8, 2022 by adminNovember 8, 2022

The day after the election, the IVGID Board of Trustees will be presented with a staggering increase in estimated costs for the Effluent Pipeline and three related projects.   The new estimate is $78,700,000. Originally, the estimate was $23,000,000. The Pipeline Project alone has increased $21,700,000 over the estimate provided in March, a mere 8 months ago.  How will this be financed?  Who knows. Sewer rates to customers will have to increase dramatically. Besides the cost increase, interest rates have shot up. In 2013, rates were raised with the promise that $2 million a year would be reserved for the pipeline. … Continue reading →

Nevada Globe reports on IVGID public records concealment allegations

Our Incline Village Crystal Bay Voice Posted on October 26, 2022 by adminMay 5, 2023

The Nevada Globe has reported on the Mark Smith v. IVGID case. In 2018, Smith obtained a judgment at the beginning of the lawsuit and asked the public records to be turned over.  Rather than complying, IVGID dragged its feet  and would not make a fair attempt to turn over records. Instead,  a special master was engaged at more costs to decide what records were public based on a small sample. As expected most were public.  Would IVGID step up and release the balance of records?  No, another special master had to be engaged.  Motions dragged on, attorneys  got paid and  … Continue reading →
